ramble

its been awhile since i last blogged about nothing in particular.

it was my grand mothers birthday today. the family threw a huge party at bora asmara. its a cool restaurant. has a balinese theme. but i don't want to tell you guys where it is. hahaha... my relatives from far and near came for the party, even some family friends.

lately work has been really shit. just imagine working in a climbing gym 5 days a week and not being able to climb at all. its like you are so close, yet so so so far. i really have to find the time to climb more often. plus i need a new pair of shoes to replace the ones that i lost.

besides today being my grand mothers birthday, it was also sharon and akmal's wedding day. after so long, they finally get married. well ain't really that long la. they have been dating for about 5 years. ok, maybe its quite long.

recently, it seems to be the season where people that went overseas, for studies, comes back for a visit. just yesterday, a bunch of old school mates came over to camp5 for a climb. there was joan, sam, elisa, jonming, yun, and some other people. its always good to get a visit from old friends. you never know when the next time you would be able to see them.

well i guess this would be enough crap to be talking about.

cya!

the lost world...

of tambun!

yes everyone, this is yet another climbing entry.

so a week ago i went with zak to the lost world of tambun to bring the alice smith school kids for an outdoor climb.

what is the lost world of tambun?

well the lost world of tambun is a water park. coolest part about it is that Team Mammut went there to set up loads of new routes.

so the day started with a drive which started at 7:30am. zak picked me up from my place with jeremy's new old BMW. the drive to ipoh was looooooonng...

whats worst is that jeremy's car has

loads of freaking ants which crawl all over the dashboard!

anyways, when we arrived at our destination, i saw this.

i would say the location was really cool. first thing you see other than a car park is that building with a huge mountain thats all green as a backdrop.

the entry into the park is pretty con, and also quite a fuss. if you are interested to climb there, you have to go to the office and go through a few things and pay a fee of 21 bucks before you can enter.

after all the registration and stuff, we were escorted to the climbing area.

the first glimpse of the main feature of the climbing site was

the needle of tambun, its called.

its a really cool feature. a monolith tower in the middle of a valley.

so we set up a few routes and just supervised the kids and teachers climbing.

the kids were really really noisy. one of em kept singing 100 beer bottles of beer on the wall, which stopped at minus 87 beer bottles on the wall, and later changed to another song which could actually go on forever! it was as if it would never stop! ahhhH!!

here are some of the kids.

this kid has only one hand! and he climbs pretty well!

can't really remember their names...

this is tommy. he might look cute here, but he is the most irritating kid you can ever find. hence me able to recall his name.

i have no idea where this picture came from, but its cool. just look at the scenery! its really cool! those 2 people in the background are just weirdos who don't climb.

after all the kids were tired from climbing, they headed over to the water park.

what does that mean for me and zak? well it means that we can climb!

i did this really cool climb on the needle. here is a pic of it.

but thing is i kind of climbed the wrong route. so this was how i climbed.

yes, i went the wrong way. i had to down climb and climb back up again because i didn't want to kill my rope which would rub against the sharp surfaces of that stalactite.

well later on we decided to head off home.

so it was back to the highways again.

the time i left till the time i got back home was almost 12 hours!

so here is my review of tambun.

tambun is a place which is probably the most beautiful crag i have ever been to. the place has probably been landscaped by the land owners, but never the less it still looks good. this was the only place where i ever saw a really green lawn. there are 2 lakes nearby, and the entrance to the climbing site has a huge wooden door which makes you feel like you are in jurassic park. the climbing area is also enclosed by green hills all around. this means that there are no noises from vehicles. all you hear is the birds tweeting, and the occasional roar from the water park's atmosphere setting speakers. the climbing area also has a big open lawn.

for those of you who doesn't like the sun, this place is the best. most of the routes are shaded from the sun all day. even if there is sun, there is always an ever present breeze which flows through the valley. this is the only crag that i have been to that does not have any sound pollution from the highway or even roads.

the routes there range from 4b to 9a, and there are loads and loads of routes to do. this climbing area would not be so good for climbers who only climb 5c and below, you wouldn't really have much to climb, cause there are only a handful of those. click here to get a copy of the route map. you gotta search for it tho. look under general info, downloads.

now for the bad part. the damage to get into the place is 21 bucks if you are a camp5 member, and 29 bucks if you are not. cool thing is, you can swim after your hard climb. besides that, there are houses on the other side of one of the lakes. for now they are still uninhabited, but when they do get inhabited, it would probably be noisy. good thing is, the houses are really nice, and look real expensive. so the place wouldn't be as noisy as a normal housing place.

-end of review-

ok so here are a few pictures of the area.

this is the infamous needle. in front of a lake.

a picture from in between the wooden gates.

the houses which are behind the climbing area.

this is another wall which has a really cool roof section for climbing.

the needle from the back view.

now tell me, where can you see really nice green lawns? nice ain't it? well except for tommy who kinda killed the picture.

well, we all need a cool pose picture.

another wall which is called the playground section.

this is how the people in tambun spell group, or is it grup? lol

all in all, it is a really cool place, really nice.

best part of all, is that i left my beloved climbing shoes there. time to get a new one.

how the elephant got its trunk.

so finally i get to talk about the elephants!

for those of you jakuns have not seen an elephant before, this is how they look like.

so the trip to kuala gandah took about one and an half hours. pretty boring drive there tho. if it was not for the other guys who kept talking, i would have probably fell asleep.

when we arrived, we went to register and looked at some of the informational thinggies they had about elephants and the kind of work they do in that center. among the things on display was a skull of an elephant.

these guys are totally government funded but they do accept donations. their job, to save the elephants whose habitat are destroyed and those elephants that have been disturbing the locals crops. it is good that they are doing this, cuase if they don't, the elephants would probably die or get killed.

the center is actually quite huge. it is just a litle smaller than the country of singapore. just imagine how huge is that!

there were three activities that were planned out for the day.
  1. getting to know the elephants by feeding them.
  2. riding the elephants.
  3. getting dunked into the river by an elephant.

so we fed the elephants!

there was two ways you could feed them,

  1. let them puck the fruits from your hand with their trunk
  2. put it in their mouth
while we were feeding them, i noticed some camera people there. it seemed that they were recording some show. i think its probably one of those travel shows. a show where the host gets paid to travel around and see loads of cool stuff. cool thing was, they were from japan!

so after all that feeding, it was time to ride the elephants.

well i know i said that riding the elephants is kind of a not nice thing to do, but i was kinda forced to do it because the rest of the activities involved riding elephants. so if i didn't ride the elephants, i would be missing much.

so we lined up waiting for our turn to ride the elephant.

well i don't have any pictures of me riding the elephants, so im just gonna put up the pics with wei jin in it.

after all that riding, it was time to get wet.

the line was really long, so we decided to play with the two baby elephants. these elephants were about a meter tall and they were so cool! there was a really hairy one, and a not so hairy one.

they aren't wrestling. they were actually so called hugging...

the funny thing about these elephants is that they only like you if you have munchies for them. if you don't, they won't really bother about you. their trunks are ever hunting for food.

even though they are small,

their asses are huge!

these calves were separated from their herd, so the good people from the center brought them to the center to save them. they are only about a month old.

so after playing around with the calves, we went to line up at the dunking platform.

normally, the calves would join everyone else in the river. but this time, the water level was high and the current strong. so they didn't play in the water. only the bigger elephant was allowed there to dunk us in the water.

when our turn came, we got onto the elephant and was brought to a deeper point of the river. then suddenly the elephant trainer shouted UNO! really loud! then the elephant would tilt to ints side and dunk us all into the water.

swimming in the water was a real tiring thing to do. the current was so strong. swimming upstream would actually make you really really sapped of energy.

after the dunking, we changed our clothes and went home.

so it was another 1 and a half hours ride back home...

this outing was attended by

miriam

and friends!

wei jin,

the pig-elephant,

and the super GT girls from japan.

cosmic funk express to space...

ok, so looks like i lied. my next post isn't about what happened at the elephant conservation center or the trip to tambun.

something even cooler happened that i decided that i have to blog about it.

well whats so cool?

i went over to groove junction at hartamas to watch

it was their last performance as their lead guitarist, zack, is going to be leaving for korea. therefore they are going to be disbanded.

want to hear their songs? well visit the cosmic funk express website.

so anyways, i went there with caroline, zak, june, harnes, and marianne. we walked into the place all late and all, so we had to stand. the band was already working their magic when we got in. the entry fee was 30 bucks. but it was worth every cent. we even got a free beer with the entrance.

since we were late, we only managed to get crappy seats at the far back. but never the less, we could hear the music great.

but yeah, it has been so long since i last played or even heard live music. listening to them play actually made me want to start jamming with the band again. i mean since william left, we haven't really jammed that much. i mean, i remember the times when i loved to play music, even tho we might have sucked, it was always cool to be playing together with other people and actually making music.

so anyways back to cosmic funk, their songs are all instrumental. cool thing is, i could actually feel the music. i mean even tho there were no vocals and stuff, their music are so well made that its like telling you a story. zack, the lead guitarist is freaking good. he plays 2 guitars at the same time and it sounds super good. alda, the bassist, is another cool character. i could see that he is like the talk person of the band, and his playing is also so freaking good! same goes for alex the drummer. really nice riffs and stuff. best thing of all, is that they all work together really well. really great combination.

anyway, the gig went on really well. untill the police came. they actually cut the gig short! i mean that the hell! if you want to go raid some joint, go raid a place that actually has drugs or something, not a place where people are enjoying good music. so freaking irritating.

i really wanted to hear more. plus it was their last performance!

anyway, we all got home all safe and sound at the end of the day. met a 2 people there, daryl and marie (i think i spelled it right). well they were probably the last people i thought i would see in a place like that.

now i'm inspired and want to make music again! lets just hope that it stays that way. having too many hobbies really takes up so much time.

so here is to a cool sweet ass band. cosmic funk express!

*cheers*

here are a few photos of the gig, with captions!

this is the band. really sucky photo. on the left is zack, followed by alda, and finally alex, hidden behind the drums.

marianne and june. this two couldn't stop dancing!

this is me, zack and caroline! with horns thinggies.

people missing was harnes. forgot to get a photo of him.

oh and also i got a cool picture with zack. but its with caroline. so i gotta steal it from here and i'll post it up.

good night!

untitled

well i'm back from the elephant conservation center. it was good. i will post on that soon. just need to get the pictures from the others first.

next on my list is,

TAMBUN!

ill be leaving for tambun in another 7 hours for a work trip and climbing trip (hopefully). for those of you who don't know where tambun is, its in perak. more on that when i get back.

today, i found the most weirdest picture.

ok, besides the picture of the food, the lady you see there is non other then valerie!

i mean i was walking around 1 utama when suddenly i found that.

ok, i have nothing else to say.

till my next post!

who does this belong to?

answer will be revealed on my next post.

lets go see elephants!

well now its exactly 1:55am friday morning. in about 10 hours from now i will be going to see ELEPHANTS!(elehpants was changed to elephants cuase sandra cant understand what is a typo)

this trip has been planned like five thousand years ago, and finally its happening. but with allot of people who were supposed to go dropping out at the last minute because,

  1. they think elephants are not cool enough.
  2. they totally forgot about the plan.
  3. they don't like animals
  4. they made other plans.
  5. they have to go to a stadium to do back flips and get thrown around.
  6. they are not cool enough for elephants.
  7. they have work.
  8. they have to earn more money by working more.
  9. their class ends at 4pm.

argh!! this really sucks. but anyways, there will still be miriam and friends there.

so we are going to

play with the elephants,

help the elephants take a bath,

and ride the elephants.

well i don't really like the thought of riding the elephants tho. it just doesn't seem right. it is like enslaving an animal and treating them as if they are a kind of toy for amusement and fun. i mean come on! animals have the right to be treated properly too. so i have decided not to ride the elephants.

ok, so lets just see if i will ride the elephant. want to find out, wait till my next post.

some other day...

my cousins came over for a visit last week. their family consists of 2 parents, and 4 really hyper-active kids. they love to jump around, run around, make loads of noise, and besides that, they make funny faces.

i woke up one morning without anything to do, so i decided to take a few pictures of 2 of my lil cousins.

their names?

lil ryan and nat

here are a few pics of ryan.

somehow, ryan reminds me of Calvin, from Calvin and Hobbes! let me show you why.

i kind of like this one. cause cows go MOOoOoo!!

this is one of my favourites. here is another pic which reminds me of calvin.

here is one with ryan trying to fit his fist in his mouth. i always wanted to see if my fist could fit in my mouth. but it could never happen. but i know of someone who has done it before. and that person is none other than marxha wu!

here is one which ryan was doin a yoga pose. he only managed to hold that pose for like 3 seconds.

this here is natalie!

ok thats kinda it.

what did you learn today?

you learned that i have cute cousins and also that Calvin and Hobbes are cool.

if you don't like Calvin and Hobbes, you aren't cool.
